Pastor Lowell Nelson teaches a topical study about God's Design for Marriage Part 3: The Biblical Design for Men in Marriage on 9/10/2006 for our Sunday service. This part shifts focus to the man's role in marriage, asserting that "it hinges all on the man". The husband is called to be the head of the wife as Christ is head of the church, meaning he is responsible for the family's biblical direction, not a dictator. The husband's leadership style must mirror Christ's servant leadership, which involves a lifelong commitment to love his wife with agape love (selfless commitment, prizing her welfare) and giving himself for her. This includes sanctifying and cleansing her through the word, requiring humility and a constant serving posture. Men are urged to make their home their primary ministry, dwelling with their wives with understanding and giving them the highest honor, just as they would nourish and cherish their own bodies. Leadership for men is described as dying to the flesh, serving the most, giving the most, humbling the most, and always being the initiator.
